Turkey AI Catcher / Breeder Herd Worker

Job Summary
The Catcher position is responsible for the gentle care, humane, and efficient handling of our Hens during the artificial insemination process.  This role involves catching, restraining, and moving birds to ensure high-speed, accurate insemination by the Inseminator/Injector, while maintaining hen welfare and maximizing reproductive efficiency.

  • Bird handling and Catching: Safely catch and restrain hens, often at a pace of 500-550 hens/hour.
  • Position hens for the Inseminator/Injector, ensuring proper restraint to facilitate accurate insemination.
  • Efficiently move turkeys from housing/barn areas to the AI (catch/insemination) area.
  • Handle all hens gently and humanely, monitoring for signs of distress, injury, or illness.
  • Clean and disinfect tools, equipment, and production facilities in a safe and organized manner.
  • Strictly adhere to all farm biosecurity protocols to prevent disease breakouts and/or spreads.
  • Work effectively with the Inseminators or other farm staff to meet production goals.
  • Assist with related tasks such as weighing birds, trimming beaks/vents, or cleaning, as assigned/or directed by the Farm Supervisor.
  1. Prior experience in poultry farming or animal husbandry is preferable.
  2. Possess excellent hand and eye coordination at all times.
  3. Ability to perform physically demanding work, including bending, stooping, squatting, and lifting 50+ pounds regularly.
  4. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain high-speed, repetitive motions.
  5. Proven ability to handle live animals with care.
  6. Strong communication skills and willingness to assist in any area of the operation.
  7. Availability to work early mornings, weekends, or extended hours as needed

Working Conditions
  • Exposure to dust, odors, noise, and varying temperatures (cold/humidity/heat).
  • Work is performed inside the barns/houses.
  • High-paced, physically demanding, and repetitive labor.
  • Shower in and shower out is a MUST.
