Position Purpose
The HatcheryTechnical Specialist will work directly with the Director of Technical Services and focus on all aspects of the technical processes and procedures involved in the production of a quality poult. This would encompass working with any of the Select Genetics farm locations, hatcheries, and/or transportation teams.

Nature & ScopeSelect Genetics provides a solid platform to serve customers on a national and international scale by providing quality poults, service, and innovation.  Select Genetics is the leading supplier of poults to growers and companies across the world and has operations in eight US States. 

The Hatchery Technical Specialist works directly with the Director of Technical Services to help develop, maintain, and coordinate quality control processes from the breeder farms to the hatcheries, through the deliveries, to ensure quality production and service consistent with established standards.  He/she brings them to management for approval before implementation. He/she plans and conducts QC training activities and best practices in poult welfare. 

The position works in a variety of environments, including hatchery, laboratory, office, and the field.  At times there is some exposure to weather and temperature extremes, chemicals and fumes, cramped spaces, and to dust and odors.  Frequent speaking and listening are required.  At times, the position requires extended work periods beyond the normal workday. In addition, this position requires traveling to the various hatchery and breeder locations across the United States for approximately 1 to 2 weeks per month.  
 
Principal Accountabilities 
  1. Follow the direction of the Director of Technical Services of Select Genetics and focus on areas of high importance.
  2. Develop, monitor, report, and analyze quality control programs for the hatcheries and the breeder operations and transportation group to ensure delivery of quality poults to customers. 
  3. Consistently interact with breeder operations management and staff, hatchery managers and staff, staff veterinarians, and other technical team members to ensure quality control programs are being implemented and followed.   
  4. Provide technical service support to hatcheries, breeder operations, and transportation groups to resolve issues affecting poult quality and production. 
  5. Aid in Animal Welfare training, documentation, and audits. 
  6. Analyze experimental results and present findings to applicable parties.
Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Sciences or equivalent required.
  • Necropsy and research experience are required. 
  • Experience working in a poultry hatchery or poultry farm environment is beneficial.
  • Posses and maintain a valid Driver’s License and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record. 
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to quickly learn and use company systems and software.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to engage across all levels of the organization.
  • Able to collect and summarize data and present to individuals and teams.
  • Able to collaborate with front-line labor, management and other technical team members.
  • This position may require occasional travel to other company locations, vendor sites, or industry meetings as needed.
  •  This position is subject to a background check as part of the pre-employment screening process (both external or internal candidates)
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, including some weekends.
  • Must not own or work with backyard poultry, fowl, or swine outside of the company, due to biosecurity protocols.
  • Maintains confidentiality with sensitive business and personnel information.
  • Must comply with shower-in/shower-out procedures to maintain strict biosecurity.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
•This role involves both office and field-based responsibilities and may include exposure to varying environmental conditions such as heat, cold, dust, and noise. Compliance with biosecurity measures (e.g., shower in/shower out) is mandatory.
•Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. occasionally; physical activities include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
•Frequent use of vehicles, tools, equipment, and PPE.
•Work in proximity to machinery, chemicals, odors, dust, and noise.
•Requires normal vision (including color, depth, and peripheral) and sensory capabilities (hearing, talking, smelling).
