Lead Mechanic – Keep Our Fleet Moving!

Responsibilities:
  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and hydraulics on fleet vehicles and equipment
  • Lead, mentor, and collaborate with mechanics, wash crew, and support staff to foster a strong, effective team; provide guidance on repair techniques, safety, and quality standards.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance and repair records for all fleet vehicles in compliance with DOT and company policies.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs) and ensure timely completion according to schedule.
  • Prioritize and assign daily work orders based on urgency, workload, and available resources.
  • Collaborate with the Transportation Manager to plan equipment availability and minimize disruptions to hauling schedules.
  • Manage parts and supplies, including ordering, tracking, and maintaining inventory levels.
  • Handle transportation administrative functions, including coding credit card transactions, maintaining vehicle service logs, dispatching, scheduling, and generating reports.
  • Assist with DOT inspections, audits, and documentation to ensure compliance.
  • Respond to road calls and breakdowns as needed.
  • Provide coverage for the Logistics Division Manager, wash crew, or mechanics during absences, ensuring continuity of operations.
  • May perform commercial driving duties and be on-call for extended hours as needed to support operations.
  • Promote and enforce workplace safety practices in compliance with OSHA and company standards.

Required
  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) or ability to obtain.
  • Possess or willing to acquire MN DOT certification.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to lead, train, and motivate team members.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills.
  • Does not own or operate around backyard poultry operations off duty.
  • Must have and maintain an acceptable driving record; Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) will be reviewed and must meet company and insurance requirements for insurability.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks required for the role (standing, bending, lifting up to 75 lbs., working outdoors or in a shop environment).
  • Willingness to work occasional extended hours or be on-call as needed.

Preferred
  • Previous mechanical experience..
  • Experience managing or supervising employees.
  • Familiarity with fleet maintenance tracking systems and general office software.
  • Experience with agricultural or poultry transportation equipment is a plus.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
